Monday was an interesting day around our office space Toronto and maybe yours too. A number of our office space for rent tenants were watching live coverage of the arrival of a pair of giant pandas — sent by FedEx from China and signed for by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The arrival looked similar to the arrival of some rock star celebrities rather than the delivery of two bamboo-eating pandas. People were watching via their smartphones, computers, laptops and even some watched the event on television. It was actually more interesting to watch those who were watching than the actual pandas themselves.

While it was kind of hokey that the Prime Minister signed the FedEx waybill accepting delivery, it did remind me how important it is to have someone who is able to sign for packages when you are not in your Toronto office space – or while you are using a Toronto meeting room and are expecting a special delivery that is important to your meeting. It may not be the Prime Minister or even the president or vice president of our our office business centre who signs for your package. But regardless, our staff will accept your package and follow any instructions you leave with them. Your packages can be delivered to your office along with the regular mail. Or, you could asked to be called when a certain package arrives, so that you or one of your staff can handle it personally.

There are some things that we cannot sign for at our Toronto office space like live animals or packages that arrive COD or with excise taxes payable. We would happily let you know if a package arrived that was COD or had customs payable so you could make the payment – but we still could not allow the delivery of a live animal because of the building and public health regulations.

Back to the giant pandas! While the PM did sign for them, they will not be traveling back to Ottawa with him, but will instead be taken to the Toronto Zoo where they will remain quarantined until their exhibit is open to the public in May.
