drhp-feature-image-galaOne of our office space tenants Ian (who is also a contributor to our photographs and blogs) has volunteered to take photos at a very special event: “Dr Roz’s Healing Place Awards and Fund Raiser.” So we thought it was fitting that we also bring this event and the organization to the attention of our friends and followers.

First, a little bit of information about Dr Roz’s Healing Place. Dr. Roz’s Healing Place is a centre for empowerment and healing that works towards the eradication of violence against women and their children locally, nationally and globally.

Dr. Roz’s Healing Place recognizes that violence against women is a health issue. Through the delivery of innovative programs and services, Dr. Roz’s Healing Place helps empower women to make positive changes through the cultivation of a holistic lifestyle. The philosophy that drives Dr Roz’s place is “A life without violence, is the ONLY life to live.. They achive this by providing abused women and their children with safe refuge, individual and group crisis counselling, advocacy, and follow-up services. They also strive to ensure that race, ethnic origin, language, religion or sexual orientation, do not serve as barriers to access or full participation within the agency.

The centre views violence against women as a criminal act. It is important that this is recognized not as an issue of individual pathology, but a serious societal problem that crosses all cultural and economic boundaries. The organizations believes that this practice is perpetuated by a patriarchal system that devalues women and children and condones the use of violence to control them. More importantly, they educate professional and community groups about violence against women issues. They also promote an attitude of community responsibility for violence against women regarding the proper response and prevention. By participating in social action aimed at legal and institutional reform, they demonstrate an effort to alleviate the effects and eliminate the incidents of violence against women.

On Friday November 14, 2014, they are holding their 6th annual “Celebrating Women and Youth Who Have Triumphed” Awards Gala. The Awards Gala and Fundraiser is being held at The Brighton (2155 McNicoll Avenue). For more information, please visit their website https://www.drrozshealingplace.com/
