Getting the Kids Back to School is a Reason to get Serious About Business

The commercials have already started for back to school. Stores are already putting together their back-to-school sections – and the kids are grumbling about it being too soon to think about their summer holidays ending. But what are parents thinking about? With their children going back to school, entrepreneurial parents will have more time to concentrate on what they need to do about their existing business (or perhaps starting a new one).

Parents who own small businesses will often take some time off during school summer holidays to spend with their kids. This could be a few days here and there, a week or two, long weekends or even just shorten their workday to spend more time with their kids. Come the first weeks of August, parents who have taken time away from their business start to think about what they have to do in order to grow or improve it once the kids are back in school. If they have been running their small business from home, they might be planning to find a real office and work from a professional business location.

But what if you are one of those parents who has been running your small business from home and wants to continue running your business from home – but wants to have a professional workspace environment when you need it? Renting an office and not using it much could be seen as a waste, but there are alternatives. If you want to work from home but still have access to an office space, you might want to consider renting a shared office or utilizing a coworking office space that gives you on-demand office space at a fraction of the cost or renting your own physical office. Office business centres can give you office space that works for you, without you having to manage your office.

Even if you are not a parent, back to school could also mean that YOU are going back to school! Maybe it is taking a MBA program or just a few upgrade courses at a local university or community college. Either way, it is never too late to learn something new, especially if it will help your business grow. You do not even need to enroll in a program. You could plan to attend workshops or seminars that will help you with a particular skill or technology change.

If it is not your children who are going back to school and it’s not you going back to school to learn, maybe it is you teaching a seminar or a workshop? If you have the right skill set, knowledge or a product that others want to learn about, they you could rent a seminar-training room and conduct your own workshop or training sessions. Conducting a seminar does not always have to be difficult – and organizing one can be easy with the proper planning and the right support.
